I am a lecturer and researcher in artistic practice, studying the aesthetics of land maintenance and management in the public realm. My research is situated within green and wooded space, examining how perceived values, such as emotional and cultural representations, and actual values related to livelihoods, resources and production, are reflected in the care and use of landscapes. The work engages with questions about how applications of design practice in municipal management may perpetuate an understanding of living environments as separate from the functional dimensions of green space. At the same time, it explores how artistic practice, such as design and craft, might instead support alternative approaches that integrate land and labour connected to natural resources into public spatial awareness.
Land Use and Artistic Practice is a PhD project at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design, University of Gothenburg.
